BAS lodged on time, every time.
What is a Business Activity Statement?
A Business Activity Statement (BAS) is a tax reporting form that businesses registered for Goods and Services Tax (GST) must lodge with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). It helps the ATO track the taxes your business collects and pays, ensuring you meet your obligations.
Do I need to lodge a BAS?
You need to lodge a BAS if:
✅ Your annual turnover is $75,000 or more (or $150,000 for non-profits).
✅ You have registered for GST, regardless of your turnover.
✅ You are a taxpayer required to report PAYG withholding (you employ staff).
✅ You are a business that pays PAYG income tax instalments, as required by the ATO.
What if I’m under the $75,000 threshold?
-
If your annual turnover is less than $75,000, you don’t have to register for GST or BAS.
-
Some businesses choose to register voluntarily to claim GST credits on purchases.
-
If you expect your income to exceed $75,000 soon, it’s best to register for GST early.
👉 Example
Emma runs a small e-commerce store making $50,000 per year. She doesn’t need to register for GST or lodge a BAS. But when her revenue grows to $80,000, she must register for GST and start lodging a BAS.
